Edward Winterton Turnour was born in AD 1821 into a British noble family ennobled in Ireland. He joined the Royal Navy in March AD 1843 and was promoted to lieutenant in September of the same year. In AD 1871, while holding the rank of captain, Turnour was appointed a Knight of the Order of the Bath. He continued to serve in the Royal Navy until his retirement in AD 1885 with the rank of admiral. Turnour passed away in London in AD 1901 at the age of 80.

This collection includes five miniature medals awarded to Edward Winterton Turnour between AD 1860 and AD 1870, covering the period from the First Opium War to the Crimean War. From two photographs of Turnour dressed in the full naval admiral’s uniform, it is evident that he is wearing the official versions of the aforementioned five medals, along with the most prestigious military version of the Order of the Bath, which he was awarded in AD 1871.

The first photograph was taken near the Royal Academy of Arts in London at the royal certified photography studio run by the renowned Victorian-era photographer Alexander Bassano. Bassano was famous for capturing portraits of the British royal family and high society. Notable works by him include the AD 1882 portrait of Queen Victoria and the recruitment poster for the Minister of War, Lord Kitchener, during World War I.

The framed portrait of Turnour is accompanied by the inscription: “The Hon’ble Winter R. Turnour, Commander R.N.”

此外還有一幅裱框的特努爾肖像畫，旁邊留有一行文字「The Hon’ble Winter R. Turnour, Commander R.N.」(尊敬的愛德華·溫特頓·特努爾 皇家海軍指揮官)。
