These cufflinks, dating to the first half of the 20th century, were either exported from China to the United Kingdom or locally produced in Britain as imitations of Chinese designs. The cufflinks feature a variety of shapes, including common circular and hexagonal forms, as well as petal-shaped outlines. Among the collection are three pairs engraved with Chinese characters: “福” (fú), symbolising good fortune, and “壽” (shòu), representing longevity. Another pair bears the inscriptions “康” (kāng) and “祥” (xiáng), conveying wishes for health and auspiciousness. Additionally, one pair replicates the design of late Qing Dynasty square-holed coins, specifically those inscribed with “Guangxu Tongbao” (光緒通寶). On the reverse of some cufflinks, trademarks and metal content stamps can be observed, providing further insight into their origin and craftsmanship.
