This sterling silver brooch, marked 925 with the maker’s initials THF, dates to the interwar Art Deco period (circa 1920–1935) and was likely produced in France for export to the British market. The brooch depicts a rhythmic procession of stylised deer or gazelles, their elongated forms and simplified anatomy reflecting the Art Deco movement’s emphasis on elegance, motion, and modern abstraction. The use of 925 silver rather than French state assay marks is characteristic of French export jewellery of the period, while the tubular hinge and pin construction further support an early 20th-century date. Animal motifs such as this were especially popular in French decorative arts between the wars, symbolising grace and vitality in a rapidly modernising world.
