This is a gold medal issued in AD 1953, awarded to Colonel George Menno of the Italian Army at the time. The issuing authority was the “General Staff of the Italian Army.” The medal has a circular design, with a suspension loop at the top for wear, and is made of gold.
The obverse of the medal features an eagle emblem symbolising the Italian Army, with two small hexagonal stamps below, inscribed with “150” and “38M.” The reverse is inscribed with the Italian phrase “ESERCITO ITALIANO STATO MAGGIORE,” referring to Colonel George Menno’s service unit, the “General Staff of the Italian Army.” The central inscription, composed of five lines, reads “COL. GIORGIO MENNO” and “5-XI-51 / 28-II-53,” indicating Menno’s rank as Colonel and his service period from November 5, AD 1951, to February 28, AD 1953.
The museum also holds another medal awarded to George Menno, who was promoted to general and served in a different unit.
