This is a 12-inch telescopic ruler pencil crafted from silver, capable of adjusting to three different lengths: 4, 8, and 12 inches. Designed for architectural draughting, the ruler includes an integrated pencil tip, allowing architects to draw and record directly. The top is engraved with the elegant monogram logo of the manufacturer, “OTIS.”
One side of the ruler pencil is engraved with “STERLING,” indicating its silver composition, along with the manufacturing date “JANY. 19. 1897” (January 19, AD 1897). The other side bears the name of its owner, “J.Y. McCarter.” According to related records, Mr. McCarter was an architect active between AD 1912 and AD 1970, based in Vancouver, Canada. Several of McCarter’s architectural works can still be found on the streets of Vancouver today.
