This is a 10-sen coin made of nickel, circulated from Shōwa 8 to 12 (AD 1933 to AD 1937) in the Empire of Japan. It was used both within the Japanese mainland and in its overseas colonies, including Korea, Taiwan, and South Sakhalin.
The coin has a circular hole at its centre. The obverse side features floral decorations, with the chrysanthemum crest (a symbol of the Japanese Emperor) above the hole and the paulownia crest (a national emblem of Japan) below it. The left and right sides of the coin are inscribed with the denomination “十錢” (10 Sen) in Japanese kanji.
The reverse side of the coin features traditional Japanese motifs slightly away from the central hole, with “Seigaiha” (青海波) on one side and cherry blossoms on the other. Along the upper edge, the national name “大日本” (Dai Nippon, Great Japan) is inscribed, while the lower edge bears the issuance year “昭和八年” (Showa 8, corresponding to AD 1933).
