This is a 2-cent copper coin issued in the 22nd year of the Republic of China (AD 1933) by the Tianjin Mint to implement the Nationalist Government’s “Tael Altered into Dollar” policy. The design was based on the round-holed Jiahe copper coin previously issued in the 5th year of the Republic (AD 1916).
At the centre of the coin is a precisely crafted round hole. The obverse side features a radiant cross design, flanked by rice ear motifs on both sides.
The reverse side displays a concentric circle resembling a four-petalled flower, within which the denomination “貳分” (2 cents) is inscribed in Chinese characters. The outer rim is bordered by a dual concentric circle pattern. The upper edge bears the inscription “中華民國廿二年” (22nd Year of the Republic of China), while the lower edge indicates the exchange rate, stating “每五十枚當一圓” (50 pieces equivalent to 1 yuan).
