The Tanda Kehormatan Bintang Kartika Eka Pakçi (Army Star of Honour Medal), established in AD 1968, is a star-level decoration awarded to eligible members of the Indonesian Army, Indonesian citizens, or foreign nationals, recognising their outstanding contributions towards the advancement and development of the Indonesian Army. This medal is categorised into three classes: the highest is ‘Utama’, meaning ‘primary’ or ‘excellent’; the second class is ‘Pratama’, meaning ‘initial’ or ‘principal’; and the third class is ‘Nararya’, meaning ‘respected’ or ‘worthy of esteem’. The medal described here belongs to the third class. It is also awarded to all personnel who have received the second-class Armed Forces Long Service Loyalty Medal (Satyalancana Kesetiaan), which is bestowed upon personnel completing 24 years of service.
At the centre of the medal is a golden emblem of the Indonesian Army, within which a smaller shield features the red and white colours of the Indonesian flag, separated diagonally. This smaller shield is borne on the chest of a Garuda, a mythological golden-winged bird, which raises its wings to hold a five-pointed star. The Garuda, also present in the national emblem, clutches a scroll in its talons, upon which the Indonesian Army motto “Kartika Eka Pakçi” is inscribed, translating to “Unmatchable Bird with One Noble Goal.” This motto also lends its name to the medal; however, due to manufacturing constraints, this inscription may not always be clearly visible. The Army emblem is set against a three-dimensional silver heptagram (seven-pointed star), flanked on the left by a wreath of rice and on the right by a cotton wreath. The entire composition is further superimposed upon a seventeen-pointed star.
The reverse side of the medal is largely flat, with a slightly raised edge, featuring the inscription “REPUBLIK INDONESIA” at its centre, signifying the Republic of Indonesia.
The ribbon is green with a broader red stripe and a narrower yellow stripe on each edge.
The Tanda Kehormatan Bintang (Star of Honour) is an Indonesian emblem of honour. It ranks below the Tanda Jasa Medali (Service Medal) but above the Satyalancana (Loyalty Medal), and is awarded for both military and civil merits, either based upon length of service or specific events.
