This is a silver coin with a denomination of 3 pence issued by the United Kingdom in AD 1891.
The obverse features the left-facing portrait of Queen Victoria, known as the “Jubilee Head,” wearing a small diamond crown, created by the renowned sculptor Joseph Edgar Boehm. Surrounding the queen is the Latin inscription “VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITT:REGINA F:D:,” which translates to “Victoria, by the Grace of God, Queen of Britain, Defender of the Faith.”
The reverse of the coin features the denomination “3” pence in the centre, with the issuing year “1891” flanking both sides. At the top, a crown serves as an ornamental decoration. Surrounding the coin is a wreath made of oak leaves, adding further embellishment.
The “Jubilee Head” was a portrait created by Joseph Edgar Boehm in AD 1887 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign. This design was not only used on the coronation medals issued that year but was also widely adopted in the subsequent coin designs of the United Kingdom and its colonies.
