This is a 1 Real silver coin issued in AD 1852 by the Republic of New Granada, a South American nation that existed from AD 1831 to AD 1858. Its territory encompassed present-day Colombia and Panama.
The centre of the obverse side features a pair of crossed and twisted cornucopias, symbolising abundance, with a budding pomegranate flower in the middle. The lower edge displays the minting year “1852,” flanked on both sides by six-petalled floral ornaments, while the upper edge bears the Latin inscription “NUEVA GRANADA” (New Granada).
The centre of the reverse side features the denomination “UN REAL” (1 Real), encircled by a wreath. On either side of the wreath, a sceptre serves as decoration. The upper edge is inscribed with “BOGOTA,” indicating the capital, while the lower edge bears the silver fineness “LEI 0,900” (0.900 pure silver).
