This is a 100-Cash copper coin issued in AD 1928 (Republic of China Year 17) after the Nationalist Government successfully unified China through the Northern Expedition. Han Fuju, who was appointed Governor of Henan Province upon the recommendation of Feng Yuxiang, modified the Double Flag copper coin originally issued during the Beiyang Government period and authorised its issuance.
The obverse of the coin follows the Beiyang era design, featuring soybean leaves, wheat ears, and a twelve-petal chrysanthemum as decorative elements within the beaded circle. Outside the beaded circle, six-petal floral motifs are placed on both the left and right sides as separators. The upper edge bears the Chinese inscription of the national title, “中華民國” (Republic of China), while the lower edge displays the denomination, “當百文銅元” (100-Cash copper coin).
The reverse of the coin features a pair of knotted flags adorned with floral decorations on both sides. Following the Nationalist Government’s declaration of national unification, the original Five-Coloured Flag and Beiyang Army Flag were replaced with the Blue Sky, White Sun, and Red Earth National Flag and the Kuomintang (KMT) Party Flag, both used by the Nanjing government. The upper edge of the coin bears the province name in English, “HO-NAN” (Henan), while the lower edge displays the denomination, “100 CASH.”
