This is a lead token privately cast and circulated in the Qijiang region, an upper tributary of the Yangtze River within Chongqing, during the first year of the Republic of China (AD 1912).
This series of tokens circulating in the Qijiang region featured a diverse range of design variations. Though relatively small, the coins were notably thick and heavy.
On the obverse, the central design imitates the motif of a square-holed coin, surrounded by the four Chinese characters Qijiang General Currency (綦江通用), arranged sequentially in the order of top, bottom, right, and left.
The reverse features a four-petalled floral ornament at the centre, with the denomination equivalent to 20-Cash (當錢二十) inscribed in the same top-bottom-right-left sequence.
