This is a ½ Qiran silver coin minted during the reign of Fath ‘Ali Shah Qajar, the second ruler of the Qajar dynasty, who ruled Iran from AD 1797 to AD 1834.

The coin is roughly circular in shape, with multiple beaded borders surrounding the obverse. At the centre, a horizontal line divides the inscription into two sections. The upper and lower lines are elegantly inscribed in Persian script, reading “سکه فتحعلی شه خسرو صاحبقران”, which translates to the ruler’s name and titles: “Fath ‘Ali Shah Qajar, Caesar, Sahebqeran (Possessor of an Auspicious Conjunction).”

The reverse of the coin is also adorned with floral motifs and beaded decorations. At the centre, two lines of inscription indicate the minting location: “ضرب دار العلم شيراز” (Struck in the City of Knowledge, Shiraz). Below this, the Hijri minting date would typically be inscribed, but due to space constraints, the numerals were omitted. Shiraz, located in southwestern Iran, is one of the country’s oldest cities and a significant centre of Persian civilisation.

Fath Ali Shah was the nephew of Agha Mohammad Khan, the founder of the Qajar dynasty. Due to Agha Mohammad Khan being captured and castrated by rivals from the Afsharid dynasty in his youth, he was unable to produce an heir and thus passed the throne to his nephew.

Under the rule of Fath Ali Shah, Persian art, particularly its painting, reached its zenith. However, his reign was also marked by two wars with the neighbouring Russian Empire, resulting in the loss of control over the Caucasus region.

錢幣外觀大致呈現圓形，正面的周圍有多組珠點圍繞，正中央有一條橫線，其上下兩行以優美的波斯體書法打印「سکه فتحعلی شه خسرو صاحبقران」，即統治者名諱和頭銜「法特赫-阿里沙阿·卡扎爾，凱撒，賽義卜·基蘭（吉祥合相的擁有者）」。

錢幣背面也以花草紋飾和珠點作為裝飾，中間的兩行銘文標示鑄造地點「ضرب دار العلم شيراز」(鑄造於知識之都設拉子)，再下方的位置理應有鑄造的回曆年份，不過因為空間有限使得數字無法入列。設拉子位於伊朗西南部，是伊朗境內歷史最為悠久的文明古城之一。

法特赫-阿里沙阿是王朝開創者阿迦·穆罕默德汗的姪子，由於阿迦·穆罕默德汗在年輕時遭到對手阿夫沙爾王朝俘虜閹割，故未能留下子嗣，僅能將王位傳給姪子。卡扎爾王朝在法特赫-阿里沙阿的統治下，波斯的彩繪藝術成就達到巔峰，但是同時也和北鄰的俄羅斯帝國先後展開兩次戰爭，最終喪失對於高加索地區的控制權。
