This is a transit token issued in South Korea between AD 1977 and AD 1999, specifically intended for student use on public buses. Struck in cupronickel, the token’s design considered its size, which closely resembled that of the 50-won coin. To differentiate the two, the manufacturing company, Poongsan Corporation, adopted a design element inspired by Japan’s 50-yen coin, incorporating a central circular perforation.
The obverse of the token features symmetrical geometric cloud motifs on both the left and right sides. Along the upper edge is a depiction of a bus, while the lower edge bears the Korean inscription “시내버스” (City Bus). On the reverse, a torch symbol is placed at the top, with an open book adorned with an olive branch and a key depicted along the lower edge. Flanking the sides are the Korean characters “학생” (Student).
