In the lower right corner of the image is the mintmark “С-П”, indicating the Saint Petersburg Mint. Surrounding the central motif is the inscription in Russian “БАНК РОССИИ” (Bank of Russia), with the year of issue, “2001”, positioned along the lower edge. The reverse bears the denomination “5 КОПЕЕК” (5 kopeks), adorned with ornamental floral designs.
In the legend of Saint George and the Dragon, Saint George is portrayed as a venerated Christian soldier who one day passed through a village tormented by a fearsome dragon. The creature relentlessly demanded offerings from the villagers, and after all their livestock had been sacrificed, the townspeople were forced to offer human tributes. One day, a princess volunteered to sacrifice herself to the beast. As she wept before the dragon’s lair, she encountered Saint George. The princess pleaded with him to flee and avoid the dragon’s wrath, recounting the creature’s cruelty. However, Saint George refused to abandon her. Instead, he confronted the dragon and succeeded in slaying it. Moved by his heroic deed, the villagers renounced their pagan beliefs and converted to Christianity.
