This coin is a silver dirham issued by Harun al-Rashid, the fifth caliph of the Abbasid Caliphate. Harun al-Rashid is also a legendary hero known in the popular folk tales of “One Thousand and One Nights” (Arabian Nights).

The obverse side of the coin bears, from top to bottom at its centre, the Arabic inscriptions: “لا اله الا” (There is no god but), “الله وحده” (God alone), and “لا شريك له” (He has no equal), comprising the first part of the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith recited during prayer. Surrounding this, an annular inscription reads: “بسم الله ضرب هذا الدرهم بمدينة السلام سنة اثنين و تسعين و مئة”, which translates as “In the name of God, this dirham was struck in the City of Peace (Baghdad) in the year 192 of the Hijri calendar.”

The reverse side of the coin bears, from top to bottom at its centre, the latter part of the Shahada, inscribed in Arabic as “محمد رسول الله” (Muhammad is the Messenger of God). Below this appears the symbol “ه”, representing the caliph Harun al-Rashid. Encircling these central inscriptions is an annular legend quoting Qur’an 9:33: “محمد رسول الله ارسله بالهدى و دين الحق ليظهره على الدين كله ولو كره المشركون”, which translates as “Muhammad is the Messenger of God, whom He sent with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He might make it prevail over all other religions, even though the polytheists detest it.”

此錢幣為阿拔斯帝國第五代哈里發(阿拉伯帝國最高的統治者稱號) 哈倫·拉希德發行的迪拉姆。哈倫·拉希德也是眾所周知的民間故事《一千零一夜》(天方夜譚)裡的傳奇英雄。

錢幣正面的中央由上而下，依序以阿拉伯文打印「لا اله الا」(除祂以外，別無真神)、「الله وحده」(唯有真主) 和「لا شريك له」(無能匹及)，即穆斯林禮拜時吟誦的清真言前半部。周圍的環形銘文「بسم الله ضرب هذا الدرهم بمدينة السلام سنة اثنين و تسعين و مئة」意思是「奉真主之名，這枚迪拉姆於回曆192年鑄造於巴格達圓城」。

錢幣背面的中央由上而下，依序以阿拉伯文打印清真言禱詞的後半部「محمد رسول الله」(穆罕默德是真主的使者)，而在下方是代表統治者哈倫·拉希德的「ه」符號。錢幣周圍的環形銘文出自《古蘭經9:33》「محمد رسول الله ارسله بالهدى و دين الحق ليظهره على الدين كله ولو كره المشركون」，意思是「他曾以正道和真教的使命委託他的使者，以便他使真教勝過一切宗教，即使以物配主者不願意」。
