This is a miniature version of the Order of the Star of Anjouan, established in AD 1874 by Said Ali bin Said Omar, Sultan of the Comoros, an island nation in the Indian Ocean. After France incorporated the Comoros as a colony in AD 1896, the order was integrated into the system of decorations for France’s overseas territories. It was briefly abolished by France in AD 1963, but was reinstated in AD 1992 for use by the independent Comoros, where it is organised into five distinct classes.
The decoration is encircled by radiating golden rays. At its centre, the white medallion depicts a hand emerging from a crescent moon, symbolising Islam. On the official version, this hand is surmounted by gilded Arabic script, but on the miniature version it is simplified into abstract dots. Surrounding the central design is a band inscribed in French with the name of the order, “ORDRE ROYAL DE L’ETOILE D’ANJOUAN” (Order of the Star of Anjouan), along with the geographic designation “COMORES” (Comoros).
Anjouan is one of the three volcanic islands that make up the Comoros. In AD 1997, it launched a secessionist movement seeking to break away from the Comoros and return to French administration. In AD 2008, with the support of the African Union, the Comorian government carried out a military operation to restore control over Anjouan.

昂儒昂是組成葛摩的三個火山島之一，公元1997年曾發起獨立運動要求脫離葛摩重返法國。公元2008年，葛摩政府在非洲聯盟的支援下，發動軍事行動重新奪回昂儒昂島的控制權。
