This is a Republican-era (Republic of China) charm coin cast in imitation of the Southern Song Emperor Ningzong’s fourth reign title, featuring the inscription Jiading Fengbao (嘉定封寶), and made of iron.
The coin is in the typical Chinese square-holed style. On the obverse, the four characters Jiading Fengbao (嘉定封寶) are inscribed in regular script, arranged in the order top, bottom, right, and left. The reverse side bears the characters Quan (權) and Wu (伍) at the top and bottom, indicating the issuing authority and the denomination.
During the Southern Song period under Emperor Ningzong, Jiading Fengbao coins were primarily cast in the Sichuan region. Well-preserved examples are extremely rare, making them a highly prised category among Southern Song iron coins.
