This is a 10-Cash copper coin minted in the oasis city of Kashgar in southern Xinjiang in AH 1334 (corresponding to AD 1916).

The obverse of the coin features two concentric beaded circles. At the very centre is a dot surrounded by the four Chinese characters “中華民國” (Republic of China), arranged in the order top, bottom, right, and left. Outside the beaded circle, the left and right sides are marked with the characters “銅幣” (Copper Coin) serving as dividers. The upper edge bears the denomination “當紅錢十文” (Valid Red Money, 10 Cash), while the lower edge displays the mint location “新疆喀(什)造” (Minted in Kashgar, Xinjiang).

The reverse features the crossed vertical-striped Five-Coloured Flags motif, a design commonly seen on early Republican-era coinage in Xinjiang. Along the upper edge of the Five-Coloured Flags design, Chagatai script inscriptions read “كاشق رد قىلفان” (Struck in Kashgar) and the Hijri date “١٣٣۴” (AH 1334). The lower edge bears the denomination “اون داچن ليک مس جل” (worth ten red cash), which is decorated with floral motifs in a distinctly Islamic artistic style.

During the late Qing and early Republican periods, Xinjiang had three official mints issuing copper coins. The earliest was the Dihua Copper Coin Bureau, located in the provincial capital, which operated from Guangxu 33 (AD 1907) to the 20th year of the Republic (AD 1931). The other two were the Kashgar Copper Coin Bureau, active from the 1st to the 23rd year of the Republic (AD 1912–1934), and the Aksu Copper Coin Bureau, which operated from the 1st to the 3rd year of the Republic (AD 1912–1914).

These mints employed traditional manual techniques supplemented by mechanical processes, resulting in a highly diverse and complex range of copper coin varieties in Xinjiang.
