This is a Cedid Mahmudiye copper coin issued in AD 1835-1836 under the rule of Sultan Mahmud II of the Ottoman Empire.

Mahmud II was the 30th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. During his reign, the growing threat from Russia to the north prompted him to initiate legal and military reforms aimed at modernising the empire. Nevertheless, in AD 1827, the Ottoman navy suffered a decisive defeat at the hands of the joint British, French, and Russian fleets in the Battle of Navarino, ultimately forcing the empire to recognise the independence of Greece.
