This is a miniature Cuban Pacification Medal (Navy version), authorised on 13 August AD 1909 for officers and enlisted men of the Navy and Marine Corps who served ashore in Cuba or upon designated vessels between 12 September AD 1906 and 1 April AD 1909.

The obverse, designed by Bailey, Banks and Biddle, depicts the figure of Columbia with a sheathed sword suspended from her belt. In her left hand she holds a flag, and in her right hand an olive branch, which she extends to a Cuban kneeling before her. A tropical landscape forms the background, with a dove of peace hovering above the figures. The inscription ‘Cuban Pacification 1908’ is engraved in a circular arc at the top of the medal. The reverse design corresponds to the respective service medal of each individual branch of the armed forces.
