This miniature medal group comprises three miniature decorations and insignia intended to be worn with non-military formal dress (such as a tailcoat); from left to right, these are the Jubilee Commemorative Medal alongside two variants of the War Medal 1873 with slightly differing inscriptions. Housed in a single box alongside another collection designated as Medal Group 1, this assembly was in all probability awarded to the same recipient.
Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal, Military Version (Miniature)
The medal was established in AD 1898 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of his accession to the throne and to honour public servants who had served under his reign. The obverse features a central bust in right profile of Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. The reverse features a central rectangular plaque bearing the Latin inscription “SIGNVM / MEMORIAE”, meaning “Token of Remembrance”.
War Medal 1873 (Miniature)
The War Medal 1873 (Miniature Version) was established by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in AD 1873. Created by Franz Joseph I to mark the 25th anniversary of his accession, it was conferred upon military personnel who participated in any armed campaigns between AD 1848 and AD 1916. The obverse inscription reads: “FRANZ. JOSEPH I. KAISER V. ÖSTERREICH. KÖNIG. V. BÖHMEN. ETC. APOST. KÖNIG. V. UNGARN”.

The final item, another War Medal 1873 (Miniature Version), differs slightly from the aforementioned example, bearing the obverse legend: “FRANZ JOSEPH I. KAISER V. ÖSTERR. KÖN. V. BÖHM. ET. AP. KÖN. V. UNGARN”.
