This is a Commander-class Order of the Star of Ethiopia, instituted by Menelik, King of Shewa, to recognise the distinguished contributions made to the nation by Ethiopian and foreign civil and military officials, as well as private individuals, while also aligning the realm with Western systems of honours.

The insignia of a Commander, suspended from a neck riband, featured an eight-pointed star in white gold, centred on a circular shield surrounded by triangular rays, with a prominent central round bead. The reverse is plain, with no additional decoration. The coronet and loop for the riband were the same as those on the Officer’s insignia.

The riband of the Order is divided into equal thirds of the tricolour: from left to right, green, yellow and red. The original ribbon, when the Order was created, consisted of equal vertical stripes of blue, yellow, green and red, but was replaced, probably before the turn of the century, by the national tricolour. It is considered the third-highest-ranking in this series.

Documented recipients include Sir Wilfred Thesiger, who was awarded the rank of Commander by Emperor Haile Selassie in AD 1930, when he attended the Emperor’s coronation.

指揮官級的徽章以頸部綬帶懸掛，章體呈白金製八芒星形，中央為一面圓形盾牌，並鑲有一顆突出的圓形珠飾，周圍環繞三角形射線。該勳章背面光滑，無其他紋樣。其王冠飾件與綬帶環則與軍官級徽章上的相同。

此勳章的綬帶由衣索比亞三色旗的三種顏色等分組成，從左至右依序為綠、黃、紅。該勳章創立之初，原始綬帶由藍、黃、綠、紅四種等寬的垂直色帶組成，但可能在20 世紀初之前，便已被國家三色旗的配色所取代。該勳章在此系列中排列第三高。

有明確獲頒紀錄的受勳者包括 Wilfred Thesiger 爵士於公元 1930年海爾・塞拉西皇帝舉行加冕典禮期間出席相關活動，並由皇帝授予指揮官級勳章。
